Environmental Foundation (Guarantee) Limited (EFL) is looking for a Head of Science for their Science Division. EFL is a non-profit public litigation organisation on environmental concerns. EFL’s Vision is “Justice for Nature” and our work ranges from litigation to conservation and scientific research, including collaborative efforts with government officials to develop national policies and legal reforms, implement projects and create awareness among the public.

Duties and Responsibilities
Science and conservation
- Identify key research areas, and work with science officer in developing concept notes, approaching funders, and carrying out research projects/ programmes.
- Build a repository of publications and scientific research on specific areas to obtain funding
- Actively network and search for external funding for conservation projects and providing technical assistance.
- Work with the science team and support development of comments for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports, Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) reports, environmental policies, environmental management plans, and similar.
- Work actively towards achieving EFL’s Strategy relevant to the division, including policy reviews and preparation of a strategy paper at National level.
Investigations
- Guide, supervise, manage and provide technical input to the investigations carried out by EFL to be completed in timely manner.
- Provide technical inputs for the legal division and develop supporting reports/ evidences litigations/ policy amendments.
Projects
- Provide technical inputs for project proposal development, reports and final approval of all projects’ deliverables.
- Work with Manager – Projects for quality assurance and quality control of outputs of projects.
Administrative and management
- Organizing, planning, and managing the division and provide technical direction to the staff
- Oversight on development of outreach content relating to conservation efforts.
- Work with management to ensure smooth progression of EFL’s strategy and develop policies and other internal documents for the division.
Qualifications and Experience
- Post-graduate degree in environmental or related stream
- 7+ years of post-graduate experience in handling conservation activities and research
- Writing proposals, scientific reports, concept notes and publications and managing project budgets
- Evaluating EIA/IEE and knowledge of environmental safeguards, acts and legislations.
- Knowledge on ArcGIS, Canva and other software with be an added advantage
This position is a full-time commitment (5 days per week) and will directly report to the CEO. The contract period will be one year (renewable) per the organisation’s standards. Completed resume with two non-related referees should be sent to mail@efl.lk on or before 29th October 2022.
