Maththegoda Vidyala held its Environment Day programme on behalf of the UN Environment Day on the 5th of June 2018. The school invited EFL to give a lecture to its students aligned with the Environment Day theme; ‘beat plastic pollution threatening marine life and human health’.

EFL team conducted the lecture for students of grade 6, 7 & 8 involving students of the environmental club of the school. The lecture comprised subjects such as what is meant as plastic, why we are facing a plastic pollution crisis at the moment, how plastic ends in oceans, impact caused and what we can individually to reduce using plastic.

Quite commendably, the school has implemented a few measures to be environmentally sustainable. For example, the school has decomposable bins in multiple locations, maintain a herbal garden and plant beds across the school premises. At the same time, the school canteen has prohibited straws and plastic milk packets in order to set an example to the younger generation by practise.

Apart from educating the children, EFL also presented gifts to the winners of the annual environmental competition with EFL recyclable bags and books.
