Eric Wikramanayake is a landscape ecologist and conservation biologist with over 30 years of experience in protected areas management, species conservation, and climate-change impacts. He is now Director, Wildlife and Wetlands at WWF Hong Kong. Previously, he was a Senior Conservation Scientist with the Conservation Science Program, with WWF US, providing technical assistance to WWF's Asia ecoregion and species programs, including leading landscape-scale conservation efforts in Asia. Eric is the lead author on a conservation assessment of the Indo-Pacific region, gap analysis and biological vision of the Himalayas, and was one of the lead investigators of the seminal range-wide tiger conservation assessment - Tiger Conservation Units–published in 1997. He also initiated the Terai Arc Landscape program, the first landscape-scale conservation program in Asia. He has conservation experience in Bhutan, Nepal, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia. Eric received his Ph. D. from University of California, Davis in 1988, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow, Visiting Scientist, and Research Associate with the Smithsonian Institute.
