Rotaract is an international youth movement that focuses on the development of the communities through youth volunteer engagement. The Rotaract Clubs of Colombo, Colombo Uptown, Colombo West and the Interact Club of St Peter’s College organized “Echo for eco” a community service project on the issue of climate change, delivering their honest responsibility towards nature as youth.
Dr. Chaturangi Wickramaratne head of science of EFL started was the first to speak in the evening and she brought about insights as to how climate change has affected and is affecting the ecosystems and the livelihoods. With statistical and graphical presentations she proved how this is the time for youth to create action to address climate change. Her presentation was followed by a Q&A session where the audience clarified much of their doubts.
Following the science presentation was the presentation by the head of legal of EFL, Ms.Bhagya Wickremasinghe. She elaborated on the existing national and international legal frameworks concerning nature. The implementation statuses of the environmental laws and the rights and responsibilities of youth concerning climate action.
