The aim of this Policy Dialogue was to bring all the relevant stakeholders to a common platform to establish responsibilities and collectively develop a long term, proactive solution to prevent future industrial disasters. EFL believes that the existing Policy and Legislation for curtailing industrial pollution is firm, however we believe there is a need for effective enforcement of laws and a highly stringent monitoring mechanism to verify that all standards are met.
This forum was created to identify the problems and barriers faced by the industries in adhering to the legislation as well as to learn from industries that have surpassed all expectations in maintaining high standards of industrial waste management. Thereby identifying gaps within the Government Authorities in enforcing the legislation as well as providing recommendations to improve such actions.
Furthermore, we hope to identify the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders as well as empower the Central Environmental Authority to play a more proactive role in monitoring the progress of each individual industry.
During this policy dialogue we encouraged all stakeholders to actively participate in generating a mechanism for curtailing lapses in our present system.
